For a while now, I’ve been hearing how many people say they are NOT a fan of denim on denim, better known as the Canadian tuxedo. To be honest, I’ve heard it more in the last two weeks than I’ve heard in a long time. I just want to know exactly what some people have against this look.
When you first think of these looks you probably see somebody’s grandpa or uncle in a denim jacket buttoned to their neck and the jean pant that continue finishing the look. And of course, you know there’s a pair of cowboy boots not too far behind. Now, this may not be the look for you, but it was for Bing Crosby. He wore it when he was checking into a hotel, but was denied entry due to his outfit. Crazy, right? Denim was concidered lowclass at the time. When Levi’s (Levi Strauss & Co.) found out about it, they made him a whole suit out of denim just for him and the rest is history.
This classic look has been worn by many if not all. Girl, Rihana was just spotted in this look, wearing a denim puffer coat with a jean jacket worn as a shirt(of course showing her baby bump) and a mini jean skirt to match while carrying her adorable son on her hip, a few days ago while in Paris. You know if she wore, it looks so good.
And since then, in plenty of different ways. Some people have added a jean shirt under the jean jacket, and some have traded the jeans for shorts and skirts. Have I worn this look before? Absolutely, too many times to be honest. I don’t see a problem with it, especially when you don’t have to look exactly like the next person.

Tie the top up to play with the ‘cowgirl’ look. You can even wear the jean skirt or get an oversize jean shirt, and button it so it can become an off the shoulder top. Then wear that with shorts and whatever shoes. Tuck the top in or not. Pair a cropped denim top with some wide leg denim pants. To break that apart you can wear a white top under or over to give the look a layer. Like I said in the last blog post, have fun with everything that fashion gives to you. I can tell you now that no matter how some people may feel about this trend, it won’t be going anywhere anytime soon!
So if you see me or even if you decide to style your own Canadian tuxedo, make sure to get a few pics!
As always, be safe
and see you in the next one!
