FOMO: Am I Really Missing Out?

Whoever said, “Money doesn’t buy happiness,” was probably talking about something deeper than what I’m feeling right now.

Because while money may not buy happiness, it sure does buy options. It buys peace of mind. It buys experiences. It buys the ability to say “yes” instead of constantly having to say “maybe next time.”

And that’s where I am.

Am I chasing money just to show it off? Absolutely not. But let’s be honest—we all know having money makes life a little lighter.

Over the last couple of months, I’ve had to tell myself “no” more times than I’d like. I’ve had to decline invitations, skip experiences, and put things back because I simply didn’t have it that day, that week, or that month.

Does it make me feel bad?

Absolutely.

I want to travel. I want to try new restaurants. Lord knows shopping and getting my nails done are at the TIPPY TOP of my list. I want to enjoy the summer without calculating every dollar before I leave the house.

But here’s the part I have to remind myself of…

I’ve maintained everything I currently have.

There’s gas in my tank.

My bills— the ones that have already been a part of the plan and the ones that came along the way.

There’s food in the house.

I have clothes on my back.

And I’m still designinggggg.

Is my gas tank always full? Nope.

Do I always have extra money sitting around? Also no.

But I’ve made it everywhere I’ve needed to go.

I’ve learned how to sacrifice one thing to make room for the next. Nothing’s late. Nothing’s falling apart. The clothes I’ve owned have carried me through years of memories and will continue to do so. When I can add something new, I do. When I can’t, I don’t.

I have everything I need.

And more importantly…

I’m building something major.

There are so many things I want to do, see, taste, experience, and be a part of this summer. But right now, my wants don’t outweigh my priorities. That’s been a hard pill to swallow, but I’m learning that discipline today creates freedom tomorrow.

So yes, the FOMO is real.

Watching everyone outside while you’re focused on building can make you question if you’re missing out. Sometimes it feels like life is happening without you.

But I don’t think I’m missing it.

I think I’m preparing for a version of it that’s bigger than anything I could force right now.

I’m here—but I’m not where I want to be.

And honestly?

That’s okay.

Because where I’m going will be ten times better than where I am today. Every sacrifice, every “not this time,” every budget, every late-night design session is building toward a life where I won’t have to think twice before saying yes.

Trust and believe…

You’ll know when FOMO is no longer a part of my vocabulary.

See you in the next one

Xoxo, Jonice 💋
