Neutrals. Everybody loves them: black, gray, white, brown, tan…animal print?
Yup, animal print. Most of the time, someone might wear it as an accent piece with a bright color or as the main piece — but what about wearing it with something that brings juxtaposition into play? Style it with a jersey, another animal print, or stripes. As mixed as it sounds, that’s exactly what juxtaposition is. Webster defines it as “the act or an instance of placing two or more things side by side, often to compare or contrast or to create an interesting effect.” Believe me, when you wear animal print as a neutral, the effect you create with your look will, in fact, be interesting.
Styling animal print this way will set you apart from the many people who go for the usual colors. There’s nothing wrong with that…this look just pulls people into wonder. What does she do? How did she do that? Where did she get that? I love that. Can I do it, too? The answer is YES!
Have I done it before? Yes, but not enough. Let’s be honest, adding animal print to a lewk, 9 times out of 10 makes it work. And thats why it’s always been neutral. So, I’m challenging myself to play around with the animal print I do have and have more fun with it. I’m going to wear animal print for the rest of the week and into the weekend to see just how far I can push my style. Playing it safe is not all the way out the window. It could be accented in one look or the statement piece in another. I have a few looks from my 30s and Beyond board that I’ll use as inspiration.

If I don’t have the exact pieces, I’ll take what I have and make it work and when the opportunity presents itself, I’ll go shopping! God knows my heart and my wallet. lol I’ve done the Klarna and Afterpay thing. It sounds amazing until that payment hits and starts digging into the stuff I’ve already decided to be responsible with — but that’s a story for another day lol.
Do I have a ton of animal print? Maybe not as much as somebody else, but we are going to have fun with this.
Today I have on my go-to brown zebra button-down tunic over a brown cropped tank with oversized jeans and brown slides.

You’ve probably seen me wear this piece a few different ways — I love getting everything I can out of what I have — and this week’s challenge will be no different. You might see something worn in a new way, or something brand new altogether. Either way, style will be front and center, because if it worked before, it’ll work again!
I’m excited to see where this takes me — in the office, over the weekend, and wherever else the week leads. Will you join me?
See you in the next one.
Xoxo, Jonice 💋
