Let’s talk. I have nothing planned for this week given all that is going on. Even getting on social media is overwhelming. This pandemic has had us in our homes for months, and now we are dealing with a lot in the black community. Another black man was killed for no reason at all. Pinned down to the ground screaming ” I can’t breathe”. For 8 minutes the man that is supposed to protect and serve the city of Minneapolis had his knee in George Floyd’s neck for 8 MINUTES! Watching the video was traumatic, to say the least. I’m hurt. The tears rolling down my face are from the pain. It’s TOO MUCH. The last time we heard that phrase Eric Garner was also pinned down not knowing that was going to be the last thing he would ever say.
I’m tired of seeing this pattern. I’m tired of being numb. I’m tired of the injustice. I’m tired of the trauma. I’m over it all. I am sick of being tired. Why is my skin color a target? When will this end?
Keep saying their names. George Floyd. Amaud Arbery. Breonna Taylor. Freddie Gray. Philando Castile. Tamir Rice. Michael Brown Jr. Jamar Clark. Atatiana Jefferson. Botham Jean. Alton Sterling. Sandra Bland. Rekia Boyd. Shereese Francis. Oscar Grant. Kendra James. Aiyana Jones. Stephon Clark. Eric Harris. Terence Crutcher. Trayvon Martin. Walter Scott. Laquan McDonald. Amadou. Sean Bell. Samuel Dubose. And the list goes on, sadly. SAY THEIR NAMES! KEEP THEM IN YOUR MOUTH. THE INJUSTICE MUST END!
Are you angry? You should be! We’ve been through enough so something has to change NOW!!!
I hope yall are staying safe as we go into another month. My county is opening for phase one on Monday, and yall already know I’ll be home. I’ll give it a few weeks before I step out for real. Has your state opened? Will you go out for your phase one? Whatever you do, wear your masks. Make sure you do your part to keep you and your families safe.
as always stay safe & I’ll see you in the next one
Xoxo, Jonice 💕
