Its been a long time coming. Blogging has been my way to get my foot in the door within the fashion industry. It’s continuously teaching me something every day tbh.
Deep down in me, I know that my purpose in life is to help women find their confidence, show them that style has no size range, and you don’t have to break a pretty penny everytime you go shopping for a certain look. I’m going to be a personal stylist. There is not a doubt in my mind when it comes to this craft.
Many people have told me that I should jump right into it and go with the flow or you don’t need to do that in order to be successful. That may be the case for them, but I know that I want to start my career off on the right foot by any means necessary. Going to get my Masters defiantly wasn’t in my plans even after having family and nosey family friends try to tell me otherwise.
“A Bachelors degree is considered a like high school diploma.”
“I have my Bachelors, I’m good luv.”
But in the back of my mind, I knew I wanted more, something that I KNOW FOR SURE will guide me to where I need to be. Thats when I came across The School of Style, one of their videos ended up in my suggested section on Youtube. I clicked on it and found myself up at 3 am clicking every video I could and ended up on their website. They offer classes in NY and LA that give you a hands-on opportunity on how to get your fashion stylist and/or personal stylist careers started and even work on a few editorial photoshoots. I knew that this was for me. I needed to find my way to NY, but who has time to buy a ticket there, play for a hotel and everything else? NOT I LOL. At the time I couldn’t take off from work, so I put it off. I brought it to my parents’ attention weeks later, but of course, the registration for the classes was closed.
I then did a little more research and found out they offer online classes. PERFECT, not. The online classes were open, but money was tight. Tuition wasn’t going to pay itself, so I put it off again. Fast forward to a few months ago, I’m back on the website and everything they had JUST closed registration for the online classes. My heart broke. I kept asking “when is it going to be mine turn?!?! I WANT THIS BAD.” God told me to wait. It was clear as day so instead of having a fit I waited and signed up for the waitlist with BOTH of my emails. I wasn’t about to miss this opportunity again. Not on my watch.
Earlier this week I woke up unusually early. Of course, I just lay there wondering what I’m doing up this early. I decided that I should at least check my emails just because. There could be an amazing sale happening somewhere so its time to do a little window online shopping lol To my surprise the first email I see is {Open up!} Exclusive Waitlist Offer!
I sent the email to my parents and within secs of me hitting send, I get a call from both of them. They both tell me to go for it. I keep hearing “this is it. go for it, its time.”
It’s something about being able to see what you prayed for become your reality. All those times I sat up wondering how I would start my career, who do I go to, starting and getting stuck was really the stepping stones to this moment. God heard me and said so be it.
When you have the opportunity to invest in your craft GO FOR IT! Don’t let anybody tell you what you can’t or what you shouldn’t do. Get that life coach, mentor, lighting, camera, or whatever it is you need to help you elevate. If you can’t right at this moment, do what you can to save up so you can.
So here I am registered for school, actually doing it. The next couple of months are going to be everything I asked for because I’m doing this for me!
My question for you is, what will you do to invest in yourself?
If you’re like my family and having a cookout for the 4th of July this weekend, enjoy yourself and be safe!
