National Curves Day’s 3rd Annual Honors and Fashion Gala

🗣CALLING ALL MY CURVY BOMBSHELLS AND DAPPER BOMBERS

Happy Monday! I hope that your weekend was as enjoyable and amazing as mine. Why was it so amazing you ask? Well if you haven’t been following me on twitter or snapchat, you’re about to get all the tea!

This weekend was NCD’s 3rd Annual Honors and Fashion Gala. It was the cherry on top to my Treat Yo Self moments. From the runway to the details around the show, everything was perfect. The atmosphere was so loving, so empowering. And that’s what the night was all about; empowering, embracing, and encouraging each other. It’s always good to have that support system around you when you need it the most, especially when society is basically against you 25/8. Having those influencers, bloggers, models and vendors that understand who you are, its a beautiful feeling.

The moment I walked into the venue I felt like I was at home. Thats truly the vibe at any curvy event. The room was filled with laughter, cocktails, and vendors ready to get you right for any occasion.

Now chiiiiiiiiillllllllleeeeeeeee I don’t know where to start when it comes to the designers. THEY SNATCHED ME UP! Everytime I go to a fashion show I can never pick between what my favorite designer or exact piece is becuase they’re outstanding. I loved every bit of each piece including the dapper bombers (the men were showing off hunti. you’ll see what I’m talking about in a minute).

yes lawd

Blessings on blessings!

Each year NCD takes time to honor a few people who are going above and beyond with their work within the plus size community. The honorees were 12 year old plus sized designer Egypt Ufele, Pretty Big Movement, Maureen Umeh of ‘Good Day DC’, Danielle Sauter of Blonde in the District, and Celebrity Stylist Lavell Witherspoon. Each honoree accepted their award with a humbling spirit. That showed me that if I keep moving forward in my lane and push for what I want, I too could be one of those honorees one year. Who knows. *kanye shrug*

In the midst of the show my phone decided that it didn’t want to stay charged and died on me smh. I know, terrible right? Don’t fret. Whatever I didn’t get a chance to catch I’ll link the designer’s website so you can do a little shopping for yourself and someone else. The holidays are coming up you know 🙂 Perfect time to do some shopping.

By now I know that you are probably wondering what I wore that night. Well hold on tight because I did not come to play with yall!! I came ready to take some pictures, meet fellow bloggers, and possibly break a few neck in the process. I don’t know if all that happened, but I know I felt like I did all that and then some.

I’ll give you a minute to process this…..I’ll wait.

You good now? Okay great continuing on…☺️

As always, I ended up shopping last minute to get this look. I don’t know why I do this to myself, but I must say that this was a WINNER!!! Fix ya face girl lol I know I had all the time in the world to get right.

Once I purchased my ticket I couldn’t find anything I liked or close to what I had in mind about what I wanted to wear. I went to the mall with an open mind and a tight budget. Zara came through!!! I was skeptical about getting the dress becuase *whispers* issa large. I can’t remeber the last time I was in a large comfortably. You think I’m complaining though? NAAAHHHH!

This may look like a regular schmegular printed bodcon dress, but it’s not. If you look closely you can tell that it is VELVET!!!! I wasn’t the only one that night slaying in velvet either. That let me know that this material will be THE trend of the fall/winter. I can bet you that you’ll come across a few people this week wearing something velvet. It could be a jacket, dress, top, pair of shoes, or even a bag! You might as well hop on the velvet trend and make it work for you!

The best part about this dress, it was only $20. Remeber how I said I went in with a tight budget, I honestly didn’t think I would come out with something this nice!! The dress was already hugging me oh so right; so the fact that I had the nerve to be soft too, I didn’t know what to do with myself. A few people at the event even asked to touch the dress becuase at first they didn’t notice.

Outfit Details:

Go into this week with your head held high, ready to take on whatever this week will through your way. Embrace the moves, empower yourself to do those tasks even when you don’t want to, and encourage someone that they can make it too!

To be updated with more events check out National Curves Day’s website, twitter, IG, and facebook. If you missed this show, I can guarantee that you don’t want to miss next year’s.

Many people didn’t know that there is a plus size fashion community in the area, but after this weekend they probably know about it more than ever.

Seee you in the next one!

Xoxo, Jonice 💕

Pssssssssst, btw check my IG throughout the day to get a deeper look into the show.
