Shopping? What’s That?

Let me be honest with you real quick. I haven’t been shopping in what feels like years, and it’s starting to make me feel some type of way.

Being a blogger and keeping up with the latest trends is very important for my brand, but take that title away, and I am just a woman that wants to look good in what she wears. I may not have the means to get EVERYTHING that I want, but I haven’t had a good (mini) shopping spree in a while. Given that covid put a halt on everything, I don’t have anywhere seriously to go, but still, Target and the grocery store can get served, lol.

I’ve been making lewks from pieces that have been with me during college and afterward. Essential pieces get worn all the time because I can do so much with them. But have you ever been sick of wearing the same stuff? Like I want new pieces. It’s nothing like finding clothes that you love, can fit, and are within your budget. Don’t get me wrong, I will get a few things here and there, but walking out the mall with multiple bags or having bags on your porch waiting for you is a beautiful feeling; almost like a superpower. Planning moves around a few outfits, because you know you’ll look good, is a thing for me. When I look good, I will go out to show myself off. It’s a form of self-care. If you can’t show yourself off, who else will?

You may be wondering why I haven’t been shopping.

LOL, I had to do it, but seriously I lost my job before covid hit, and trying to find a job at the beginning was next to impossible. Am I good now, yes. I haven’t missed a meal or bill payment. That doesn’t take away the joy of treating myself even if I don’t have anywhere to go. Is it hard? Yes. Will I be OK if I don’t go shopping like I want to? Of course. That will never stop the lewks over here at SOACG!

I want you to know that it is OK that you haven’t been shopping like you want. Wearing your go-to looks is OK too, but give yourself a chance to pair a few things together that you usually wouldn’t wear together. Get some new accessories maybe even a new bag. That will take a simple dress or anything and make it a statement. Layering is another way to dress it up and make it real for yourself. Do you and have fun with trying out something new with something old. You aren’t alone in this slight shopping drought.

This, too shall pass.
