In A Loud World, Be Soft

Happy New Year and most importantly, HAPPY 100th BLACK HISTORY MONTH!!!!!! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I’d choose being Black in EVERY lifetime. There’s truly nothing like the experience, joy, culture, jokes, style, and lifestyle of being Black — especially being a Black woman in America.

With everything that is currently happening in America, I couldn’t just write and act like nothing was going on. I may not have protested in person, but I continue to share how I feel all over social media. And to find joy while living through these events, I took the month of January to truly bask in what has been making me happy.

When I say be soft, I don’t mean be soft-spoken or shy away from things. I mean when everything is happening all at once, what do you do that recharges you… calms you?

I’ve been journaling like crazy about anything and everything. I used to handwrite in my journal, but when I would read some of those entries back, my handwriting would be all over the place. My thoughts would move quicker than my hands. Luckily, I found Day One on the app store that I’ve been using for a few years that’s downloaded on my laptop. I’m currently sitting at 83 entries.

My love for pilates has grown. I can’t get over the feeling after each class. The gym is amazing — especially after sitting in the massage chairs before I go home — but this is different. Yes, I was just shaking like a leaf holding my own body weight or 10 lbs, but every time I’m done, I feel so strong. This will be another hobby that will stick around for a while.

I finally finished the book that had been in my purse for the last month, and I’m almost done with An Offer From A Gentleman, just in time for part one of Bridgerton to drop on Netflix (yes, I finished it and have watched it three times, picking up whatever I missed the first two times). I’ve watched a few fashion shows and have been catching up on some of my favorite substacks (I love it over there so much). Let’s just say I have been making sure I’ve been fed — and I’m nowhere near done.

I’m also in the midst of planning my birthday. I think I’ll make it a whole weekend of moves for those who want to celebrate their favorite mood 😜. I want to do the things I love with the people I love even more. That only means partying with the best DJs, eating the best foods, and looking like a million dollars. Real 1 of 1 attitude that entire weekend. And since Pisces season is approaching, it’s only right that I take the time to embody being seen.

When you give yourself a chance to be soft with yourself, who knows how strong you may look from somebody else’s point of view. This softness could be your super power that will help you get through ALL THIS!

What have you been doing to feed yourself lately?

See you in the next one.

Xoxo, Jonice 💋
