It’s been a week and a few days, and the dress is still having a staring competition with me. Every time I go to my closet, she’s there, waiting for me to show her some more love before I move on completely.
The show was exceptional. The designs were it, but something about that dress was the cherry on top. Was it the way I styled it? Was it the green tones that graced me head to toe? Was it the way I felt in it? Yes. It was all of it.
The entire process of the look was a love letter to myself. I had let the dress sit in my closet since getting back from Cape Town, not even thinking of bringing it out to play. I was waiting for the right moment. And yes, the Bishme show was the perfect way to show her off, but not talking about her enough is driving me crazy.

How did I get to this? It started with a game of This or That. I styled her four different ways for the show, and I knew it was going to be one of those looks or nothing at all. I refuse to let myself settle. Of course, it’s a gorgeous dress, but I needed to make it mine. And I did.

Originally, I planned to wear her as she came: long and backless. Luckily, the design allowed me to tie the top of the dress to my liking, but that wasn’t enough. Once I started getting dressed, I knew the long style wasn’t it for that night. So I did what I do best. I flipped and dipped the dress until I loved it more.

I had safety pins with me (I never travel without them now because you never know when quick alterations will save the day). I folded the hem up until it was as short as I wanted, then pinned the skirt at my hips on both sides to keep everything in place. Moving up to the bodice, there was way more fabric than my chest needed, so I had to make it fit just right. Enter two hair ties (thank you, Dani). I wrapped each piece until it felt secure, adjusted them to sit perfectly, and once the bow was tied at my neck, I was ready.
That’s how we got here. I took something I already loved and made it truly mine. I love when I do that because it reminds me (and everyone else) that you can always make adjustments to get what you want. You just have to be a little resourceful and creative.
Still to this day, I’m getting likes, comments, and views on TikTok, and honestly, that’s helping scratch the itch of showing her a little more love.
So let this be your guide to making the next look that’s not fitting too well WORK FOR YOU!
See you at the next one,
Xoxo,
Jonice 💋
