Unpacked and Unbothered: First Night in Cape Town

Girl! I’m finally sitting down and almost unpacked from my back-to-back trips. You already know I was just in Toronto about a month ago, and whew—what a time. But last week? Last week was the most beautiful start to my summer, and now I’m already scheming on when I can hop on a plane again.

I’ve been flooding IG with pics like it’s my job, mostly just to hold onto that Cape Town magic a little longer. But now that I’m home, let’s get into what I wore while I was out there serving looks and soaking up the vibes.

Getting there was a whole journey. What was supposed to be a one-hour layover in Dubai turned into a 19-hour saga. So yeah, by the time we landed in Cape Town, I was ready for anything. Once we got to our Airbnb, we freshened up, grabbed some food (baby, I ate good the whole trip—tried some new things too!), and then headed straight to the Stormers’ rugby game.

Now listen. It’s winter in South Africa right now, and I was not all the way prepared. So, we hit up the team store at the stadium where I grabbed a Stormers hoodie. It was perfect—kept me warm, made for a cute souvenir, and I didn’t look like too much of a tourist. Also? That game was so entertaining. Why didn’t y’all tell me rugby was that good?! I’ll definitely be looking into catching a few games at home now.

After the game, we went back to get ready for our first night out—and I already knew what was getting worn: Iggy.

From the minute I booked my flight, Iggy was on the packing list. It had been way too long since I let her see the outside, and baby, it was time. That dress is a moment. From the ruffles to the color to the way she fits? I knew she was gonna turn heads. Heels were absolutely required to complete the look, so I dusted off my most comfortable pair, said a prayer, and headed out with the boys.

The moment we stepped out of the Uber and into the club, I got the full princess treatment. I’m sure their service is always top notch, but that night? That night felt special. Was my confidence through the roof? Girl, it was damn near to the moon. The drinks were endless, the DJs (shoutout to the women DJs!) didn’t let me sit down once, and I felt absolutely amazing.

Me, a Black woman, wearing a dress designed by another Black woman, dancing in South Africa?? Yeah. I was on cloud 10.

We danced, we ate, we laughed—that night set the tone for the whole trip. We didn’t leave the club till about 2:30 a.m. only because we had some excursions lined up for the next day. But best believe, the next time I’m in Cape Town, I’m outside until the sun comes up.

Later this week, we’ll get into what else I wore and how I overpacked. Till then enjoy the new episode of Get Undressed With Moody…only on our IG account!!! See you in the next one.

Xoxo, Jonice 💋
