The Life of a Serial Outfit Repeater

Since starting this blog, I’ve made it clear on multiple occasions that I will wear my clothes more than once. I’ll even go as far as to wear the same outfits multiple times. Sometimes the accessories might be different, and sometimes they won’t. Why? Because it worked before, and it will work again, and I wash clothes lol.

When I used to work at Fashion to Figure, we had one customer who came in every week when we first opened. She wanted to have the whole store to herself (which I’m not mad at), and she’d try on everything. Whatever she liked (which ended up being everything she tried on), she’d buy, walking out of the store as the happiest person alive, arms full of bags.

At first, I thought she was just a huge fan of the brand and wanted everything we had. But one day, as I was helping her, I couldn’t hold back my curiosity any longer. I had to ask: Why are you in here every week? Her answer left me speechless. She said she never wears her clothes more than once.

My jaw was on the floor. WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!?! To this day, I can’t imagine the closet space she doesn’t have or the room she’s probably converted into a closet bursting at the seams. This experience made me appreciate the clothes I have and the looks I create with them.

Do I want new clothes every time I go somewhere new? Sure, I used to. Years ago, I tried doing just that, but I realized it wasn’t better for me, my bank account, my closet, or the environment. Shopping for something new every time I wanted to step out didn’t make putting a look together any easier. That’s when the concept of a capsule wardrobe started showing up for me.

A capsule wardrobe is a small collection of clothes that can mix and match with each other to create multiple looks. If you look back through my blog posts and IG, you’ll see that I had a capsule wardrobe before I even knew what it was—and I still do. I add a few new pieces whenever I get the chance, but I no longer pressure myself to shop for every occasion.

These days, I focus on upgrading pieces to fit my life as it is now. Shopping with intention is key. I look for more than just dresses. If I get pants or a skirt, I make sure to pick up at least one top that pairs well with it and can work for different occasions. This approach has allowed me to get more wear out of my clothes.

I also don’t force myself to follow trends. I do me. I wear what I want when I want, and if I happen to like an outfit I wore a few weeks ago, I’ll wear it again.

The moral of the story is: Do you! Wear what you want, even if you’ve worn it already. Styling makes the look. Switch it up if you feel like it, but if you want to repeat an outfit, who’s going to stop you? Not me, and you definitely shouldn’t stop yourself. You’ll never know what a repeated look will do for you.

So, what are you wearing this week? I can’t wait to see.

Xoxo, Jonice 💋
